One of my favorite blogs, What in Tarnation, sent me to another web poll. Seems all the questions were written by a liberal. But anyway. Here are my results and some of my comments.
Cox 32 (who???)
Tancredo 32 (Still disagree with him on a couple things. Specifically US Foreign Policy)
Paul 25 (Right on Foreign Policy, wrong on drugs)
Romney 25 (Mormon - yes, it matters to me. Plus, he’s yet to prove himself on some of his newly found conservative positions)
Hunter 19 (wonder why he’s down here?)
Huckabee 17 (really wonder why he’s down here — he’s becoming “one to watch” (update: or not))
Brownback 17
Thompson 8
McCain -3 (minus 3!! ha)
Richardson -16
Giuliani -18 (again, Giuliani scores below a Democrat)
Biden -19
Edwards -24
Dodd -25
Gravel -26
Obama -29
Clinton -30 (Communist)
Kucinich -32 (Communist)

I love some of the things Ron Paul is saying. He’s right on Foreign Policy and very right on the Constitution. However, while running as a Libertarian for President he said and wrote some very strong statements concerning the use of Drugs in America. And for some reason, I haven’t seen any of this come up in the debates. Perhaps he’s changed his position.
From ontheissues.org Ron Paul:
* Legalize industrial hemp. (Jan 2007)
* Voted NO on military border patrols to battle drugs & terrorism. (Sep 2001)
* Voted NO on subjecting federal employees to random drug tests. (Sep 1998)
* War on Drugs has abused Bill of Rights . (Dec 2000)
* Legalize medical marijuana. (Jul 2001)
* Rated A by VOTE-HEMP, indicating a pro-hemp voting record. (Dec 2003
Check out these videos of Ron Paul on the Morton Downey, Jr. Show (how did that show ever make it on the air?)

Ron Paul wrote in 1987:
The Reagans, emulating Stalin, have even praised the chilling example of a child informing on his parents and urged others to follow his example. The 1980’s war on drugs has increased the U.S. prison population by 60%, while street crime has zoomed. Seventy percent of the people arrested for serious crimes are drug users. And all the evidence shows that they commit these crimes to support a habit made extremely expensive by government prohibition. Urban street crime, which terrorizes millions of Americans, is largely the creation of the U.S. drug laws. That alone is reason enough for legalization.

“If men used as much care in uprooting vices and implanting virtues as they do in discussing problems, there would not be so much evil and scandal in the world, or such laxity in religious organizations. On the day of judgment, surely, we shall not be asked what we have read but what we have done; not how well we have spoken but how well we have lived.”

Reuters reports from Hong Kong that an Indonesian maid has been jailed for six days in Hong Kong for serving her boss a cup of water containing urine, a newspaper reported Wednesday.
The 29-year-old pleaded guilty to a charge of “administering poison or other destructive or noxious substance with intent to injure,” but insisted she had used the urine to treat a skin condition and its appearance in her employers cup was…. a mistake.
Whoops. I was waiting for her to say, “It was a mistake, besides.. he’s a jerk.”
More here (oh, and it gets stranger).

Ron Paul Says He’d Change “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”
While speaking to a group at Google, GOP presidential candidate Ron Paul expressed support for changing “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” citing the number of discharged linguists.
This should not come as a shock to folks… He’s very much a libertarian and at his core believes that what you do is your business. And while that may sound good on the surface, in this case it leads to an endorsement of behavior that is undoubtly dramatically life shortening*.
What should be our response? One of true love. One that doesn’t leave someone to their own fatal desires but helps them to overcome their problem, much like we do with alcoholism now. We used to shun drunks but now we try to get them help… as we should. That is the loving response and takes out the whole debate on whether you are born that way or not.
*A Canadian study published in 1997 by Oxford University’s International Journal of Epidemiology reported that “life expectancy at age 20 years for gay and bisexual men is 8 to 20 years less than for all men. If the same pattern of mortality were to continue, we estimate that nearly half of gay and bisexual men currently aged 20 years will not reach their 65th birthday.”

According to this short quiz, Tancredo and Hunter are the current candidates that lineup most with my political positions. Tancredo got a score of 70% overall. Hunter 65%. Interesting Ron Paul (whose “The-Constitution-says-this-the-Constitution-says-that” message really appeals to me) only scores a 40% and 19% on social issues. That puts him just a few points ahead of Joe Biden! Also real interesting to me is that Rudy is lower than Bill Richardson. That should tell you something right there. Not that I ever thought he was conservative.
You can take the quiz here (check my note at the end of this post)
Here’s my results (let me know how yours match up)… Continue reading »

A very significant and “potentially devastating” quantity of explosive components and materials, some already mixed into active explosives, along with detonators, wires, and other bomb-making paraphernalia was discovered at a storage facility on US Route 45 S in Bradford, Tennessee just after 9:00 yesterday morning. Also found were bomb making instructions downloaded from the Internet, as well as various city and county maps that highlighted the targets, among them: Christian Churches in the immediate area.
