Here’s a great fix for those of you missing your Itunes store in Linux.
Now, if they would just have .ogg files
But great start Amazon – take a bow!
Footnote: Convert mp3′s to better sounding ogg files with oggconvert.
From terminal: sudo apt-get install oggconvert

Interesting move for amazon. Hopefully Trent Reznor’s approach to music delivery will catch on with the rest of the industry. With his new Nine Inch Nails album he’s offering several different tiers of delivery including half the album in mp3 format for free all the way up to a physical optical media including dvd’s and blu-ray and a $300 collectors edition(which sold out). http://ghosts.nin.com/main/order_options
As for converting mp3′s to ogg, they will not sound better than the mp3′s. Like with any lossy compression you can not get back lost information by up-converting.
not only that but reencoding always creates loss when reencoding to any lossy format, the track is guaranteed to sound worse if reencoded, unless you love the sound of overlapped compression artifacts theres no way it will be better if you reencode from mp3 to ogg.
