Actually, there have been several Marlboro Men. I think they are all dead. But the article was not about the man himself, rather the agenda behind it. Thanks for chiming in.

Whew, Newsisgood, that’s too long for me today. I’ll have to read your post some day when I have more time. You might provide a summary. If so, let us know.

In short we only have to ask ourself, “why do companies spend so much on simple product placement in movies and on TV if they don’t influence us?”

Hollywood knows what Madison avenue has known for years. Your feelings do motivate your actions. I’m out of time, but more on this later…

To call this film propaganda is an amusing logical error – you would then have to say that all Hollywood love stories are propaganda, including, for example, While You Were Sleeping. I argue this point in the weblog above, if you would like to read it.

I think its only propaganda if the person watching the movie is already predisposed to leaning in that direction. My wife drug me to the movie….its really long and boring….good performances, but I still feel homosexuality is wrong. Plus, I don’t think you were suppposed to feel sorry for the characters. If the movie were between a man and a woman it would be about adultery (see numerous titles). I personally don;t think this movie is going to change anybody’s mind any more than other movies change people’s mind on other moral issues (I’m not saying entertainment doesn’t influence people’s moral choices, I’m just saying that this movie isn’t any better or any worse than other movies at doing it.)
