Get your Tivo set…
‘To Catch a Predator’ - MSNBC.com
This Friday
Watch Dateline’s ongoing hidden camera investigation into computer sex predators — grown men, trolling Internet chatrooms for young teenagers. This time, police are making arrests. • 9 P.M. ON NBC
It can not be said enough.. You have to protect your children from these folks.
1. No computers in the bedroom. Keep any computer hooked to the Internet in a public room like a den or something.
2. Get a filter. Try BSafe Online’s filter free for 10 days. (yes, I used to work for them, but I get nothing for recommending the product, and I recommended it before, during and after my employment.). If you don’t like their filter, I don’t care, but get one you do like. Good reviews at www.moralmetric.com
3. Know what your kids are doing online. There is never any reason for them to go in a public chat room - and Instant messaging should only be with friends they already have - not for making new one.
4. Don’t let them fill out a profile. It only works as pervert-bait.

I’d encourage people to watch it. I realize most of you don’t have kids but one day many will and it’s important to know what’s out there. I thought I knew until I saw one episode. I believe Dateline is doing an amazing thing. Even if I didn’t have a child I would think this is important stuff. There is no greater power than being aware.

What a great idea! It seems to be working well in California. I feel it needs to be done in other states as well to protect our children and grandchildren, after all, they are our future! A subject well worth Datelines time and interest.
Keep up the good work!

I think it’s great that someone hasn’t been afraid to expose these predators. Where are the parents of these children who are in these chat rooms? Are they too busy with their own lives to be concerned about the lives of their children? Shame on them! If they are too busy with their own lives to care about what happens to their children until it’s toolate to care then they should have never had children.
Shame on them!

I think in all fairness, Tom, some parents are just clueless about technology and don’t know the dangers.
Others have to work 2 jobs. Divorce rates are high in America and it takes a toll on our children.
There are very few healthy homes for kids to grow up in these days. If we don’t see some sort of return to real family values we are going to continue on this downward slide we’re on.
